Relay for Life

I just finished this pro-bono artwork for a tshirt. It's for a team participating in the Relay for Life, an event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society. You can learn more about it at: http://www.relayforlife.org

The team I contributed to was in memory of a young, 25 year old, single mother who died of lung cancer right after her baby was born. Phyllis Angelo, our lactation consultant/NP for Sam and Bennet approached me with the project. The woman, Laurianne, was a patient of Phyllis' and now her son Caleb is. Before Laurianne died she was very involved in educational outreach. Laurianne was never a smoker.

Phyllis started with the idea for the t-shirt of having a bouquet of ribbons. She wanted 5 ribbons in various cancer colors. She thought about it more and came back to me with 15 different colors. Phyllis currently knows people affected by 15 different cancers - truly scary. The project was getting totally out of hand. It's really expensive to print more than three colors on a shirt. We decided the best solution would be to do a tshirt with all white ribbons that could be colored in by the team member depending on how they wanted to dedicate their shirt. It was a fun project and I'm totally inspired by these women.
